American Axle workers need your support…

American Axle, a parts supplier for GM, is unique in the U.S. auto industry – it’s successful – at least for its CEO and shareholders. The company made a 37 million dollar profit last year. CEO Dick Dauch averaged $14.5 million in annual compensation between 2003 and 2006. But as usual, just being tremendously profitable is not enough for the corporate elite. After convincing UAW members at American Axle in 2004 to agree to a dangerous two-tier wage structure that will have future new hires making a fraction of the wage of current employees, the company now wants the current workforce to cut their own wages and benefits in half. This time around the union is saying enough is enough.

It is important to support unions that make the right choice to fight back against the concessionary wave. These workers deserve our full support. On Friday night I visited with members of UAW Local 2093 on the picket line in Three Rivers Michigan. I also interviewed the president of the local last Sunday. You can hear the interviews on the latest edition of Labor Express radio…
